Geography

At Belmont Cheveley Park Primary School we intend to create confident Geographers who have a solid understanding of the world around them based on experiences and knowledge gained both inside and outside the classroom. We intend to build on geographical skills throughout the school with a focus on map reading and understanding of compass points so that children can get ‘hands-on’ with Geography. We will ensure our children are provided with opportunities to conduct field studies in and around their local area so that they can learn, through experience, how nature and mankind have affected their surroundings.

We aim to promote the children’s interest and understanding about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. It is our intention that Geography will promote children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development helping them to have a greater understanding of their place in the world, and their rights and responsibilities to other people and the environment.

Children will learn how they can make a difference to conservation and protection of the planet focussing on topics such as global warming and recycling and how important it is to be responsible citizens within society.
